Intestinal obstruction due to mass at the colonic hepatic flexure.
Received was a right hemicolectomy specimen consisting of a 5 x 2 cm segment of terminal ileum, a 25 x 2.5 cm segment of cecum and ascending colon, and an attached 7 x 0.6 cm appendix. Opening revealed a solid, firm, creamy-colored, annular ulcerated mass measuring 5.5 x 4 x 3.5 cm. The mass was located 13 cm from one resection margin and 9 cm from the other. The attached mesenteric fat measured 15 x 3.5 cm and contains 17 lymph nodes, the largest of which measured 1.3 cm in maximum dimension.
